An important value of OCA is to share knowledge and lessons learned with other stakeholders. In order to share knowledge and learn from others, OCA become involved in two initiatives within and beyond the cotton sector.
Last month OCA joined the Dutch Sustainable Textile & Apparel Covenant as a knowledge supporter. The aim of the covenant is to improve working conditions and low wages in textile producing countries such as Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Turkey. Companies that sign the covenant agree to inform consumers about the source and production process of their products and thus to transparently map their supply chains. As a knowledge partner, OCA plays a supporting role for issues related to cotton. More information on the covenant can be found here (in Dutch).
Next to this covenant, OCA also joined the global coalition of Cotton 2040, initiated by Forum for the Future & C&A Foundation. This unique cross-industry initiative is driving change by taking collaborative action to scale up the use of sustainable cotton, across multiple standards, so that it becomes a mainstream commodity. The Cotton 2040 initiative is a cross-industry partnership, including leading brands and retailers, cotton standards, producers and industry initiatives. OCA takes part in two workstreams where most of our experience lies: Building demand for sustainable cotton and Traceability. More information on this initiative can be found here.
